Sport motorcycles are notoriously tricky to learn to ride. With such delicate controls and overpowered engines, it’s very easy to lose control of these models if you don’t know what you’re doing. Thankfully, we’ve written up some helpful tips below to help you master riding your new sport motorcycle.

Start Slow

Sport motorcycles require riders to exhibit a certain level of athleticism to ride. These models not only have you sit in a tight riding position but require you to lean and shift regularly in order to maneuver your model—much more so than your average motorcycle. As a result, we strongly encourage you to ride at a slow speed as you get used to a sport motorcycle’s unique handling and controls. This will also give you the opportunity to practice accelerating with your model, as these bikes can hit top speeds much faster than many riders realize.

Practice Braking

To ensure sport motorcycles are able to brake on a dime or stop at incredibly high speeds, these models have incredibly strong braking systems. However, to inexperienced motorcyclists, this braking system can seem overly sensitive and can even frustrate new riders. However, with a bit of practice it is possible to master a sport motorcycle’s sensitive braking system, and we encourage you to practice at low speeds regularly until you get the hang of things.
